Obituary of Julia Warren Johnson

Please share a memory of Julia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Julia Warren Allison Johnson of Hillsborough, North Carolina passed away in her home on February 10 at the age of 94.

Julia was born on November 16, 1927, in Person County. She attended Aycock School in Cedar Grove for Elementary, Jr. High and High School. Julia lived her life laughing and dancing.

Julia met her husband, Odis Johnson, on a blind date! Odis was 18 years old and the only one in his friend group with a car. One day he was driving around Hillsborough with his friends including his buddy Calwell Williams. Well, Calwell knew some girls in the country and wanted to pick them up and have a good time. So, Odis drove to Mr. Allison’s house and picked up Julia, and the rest is history! As it happened, that same friend Calwell was one of the officiants of Odis and Julia's wedding on December 24, 1949. Calwell said he “tied the knot so tight you can't untie it” and Odis says they were “Christmas presents for each other.” They were married for 72 years.

Julia grew up attending community square dances and was a member of the Happy Steppers, a clogging group out of the Orange County Senior Center. She loved to dance, and could be caught shuffling to bluegrass tunes even at 90 years old. Julia also loved flowers and gardening and was a member of the Mebane Garden Club. She had a passion for traveling on bus trips with her friends, as well as listening and dancing to her grandchildren playing bluegrass music. She was a member of New Sharon United Methodist Church.

Julia loved to laugh and have fun and enjoyed a birthday margarita! She loved and was loved by her family and friends. Her family will miss their Nana Banana. Julia is predeceased by her Father, Charles Floyd Allison, her Mother Jessie Parker Allison, and Step Mother Lettie Tate Allison as well as her brother, C.H. Allison. Julia is survived by her Husband Odis J. Johnson; her Daughters, Pam Oakley (Tony Oakley), Debbie Smith (Tim Smith), Donna Galloway (Evan Galloway); her Grandchildren, Allison Oakley (Eddie Meredith), Audrey Smith, Jessi Galloway (Pat Bynum), Alaina Smith (Andrew Watson), Tucker Galloway; her Great-Grandchild Julia Kaitlyn Meredith, and her dear friends Dorothy Lee, Sandy Wolf, Jason Kary, Karen Kary, and Emily Kary.

A Funeral Service will be held at Walker’s Funeral Home in Hillsborough on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 2:00pm with the Rev. Carl Belcher officiating. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home from 1:00pm – 2:00pm prior. The burial will follow the service in the Hillsborough Town Cemetery.

Walker’s Funeral Home of Hillsborough is serving the Johnson Family.
