Obituary of James Edwin Nichols
Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jim (Jim Bob) passed away unexpectedly on Jan 27, 2022, surrounded by his loving family at Duke University Hospital. He was born September 6, 1965 to the late Garland Jean Nichols. An Air Force brat, Jim traveled around the world with his parents, but home was always the family farm in Chapel Hill established by his maternal grandparents Clyde and Ethel Hogan. Jim settled in Chapel Hill as a teenager and never left although he loved to travel. He started working at Duke University Hospital Clinics as an electrical apprentice and recently retired as an electrical foreman; he was with Duke for 37 years.
Jim’s true passion in life was his family although bass fishing came in as a close second. He considered his wife Connie and sons, Trey and Tyler, to be his everything:best friends, truest companions, and the loves of his life. However, he was always anticipating one last thing to make his life complete: grandchildren. He was blessed with a granddaughter, Berkleigh and most recently a grandson, Makoy. He was looking forward to spending the next years watching them grow and hopefully introducing them to the joys of bass fishing.
Jim is survived by his wife Connie and sons Trey (Savannah) and Tyler (Ari), and grandchildren Berkleigh and Makoy. Also, his uncle Tommy and family, niece Chelsey, and his mother-in-law Sandra.
Jim loved his pet dogs, and each one was a rescue of some sort. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the dog rescue of their choice or the Ridgecrest Outdoor Church Ministry (1104 Milton Rd Durham NC 27712), an outdoor faith ministry whose mission includes teaching children to enjoy fishing. The one thing Jim would want all his fishing buddies to do for him; take a kid fishing and introduce them to the wonderful world of bass fishing.
A memorial service will be held graveside at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens on Tuesday Feb 1, 2022 at 11:30 AM followed with visitation at the family farm.
Walker's Funeral Home of Chapel Hill is assisting the Nichols family.
