Jim and I started working at Duke around the same time. We were both so young. During that time we got to know each other and we developed a great friendship that has continued over the last 30 plus years. He was kind and caring and most of all a good person. My heart is broken. I will miss our conversations and the laughter that we shared.
Connie and family my heart aches for you all. I have no words to say how shock and sadden you have to be. May God guide you through your grief and sadness. Please know that you and the family are in my thoughts and prayers.

So sorry to hear about Jim’s passing. He always called me Calvin’s cousin. He always stopped and talked in the hallways . Some mornings we would walk up the hill in the mornings from the Graduate Center Parking lot. He always was so kind and happy. Please let me know if you need anything at all. Love and Prayers to you all. Betty Williamson

I loved this precious man with all my heart. His wife Connie is my niece. He loved everyone and was such a kind person. My sister Sandra lives with Jim and Connie and I spent many weeks visiting them through the years. Always so much fun. He and Connie were amazing together and he had such respect for my sister. Miss you Jim

I am so sorry for your loss. Love and prayers to all of Jim's family and friends. I met him when he first started work at Duke as a very young man. He grew into an even more wonderful person through the years. He may be gone from earthly times, but he will always be smiling down as a guardian angel for the family and friends he loved and cared for so much.

I remember the first time I met Jim, how long it took and how many time I got lost trying to find his office down in the basement of Duke South. Jim was most accommodating, sometimes to a fault actually, going above and beyond what he needed to do. As a result, I always looked forward to working with him on the next project. There were many over the years at Duke in Jim's buildings. The last, I am sad to say Jim will not see to completion.
My deepest condolences to his family during this time of loss of one of finest men I have had the pleasure of working for and with during my many years at Duke as a contractor.
As a believer in God, I rely on His word to guide me through what you are experiencing. Ecclesiastes chapter 3 talks of the seasons of our life, one of which is death. You all have a great big hole in your heart at this time but know that in time it will heal. We never forget our loved ones who have passed, but over time we come to understand that this thing we call 'death' is a fate that awaits us all.
Personally Matthew 5:4 which reads as follows: " Blessed are they that mourn; for they shall be comforted" is of special comfort to me during the times that I have experienced loss of a loved one.
May God bless you and comfort you during your time of grief.
