Gerald "Jerry" Siegfried, 90, of Raleigh, NC, formerly of Reading, PA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 7, 2021. Born November 1, 1931 in Allentown, PA, he was the son of the late Claude Siegfried and the late Evelyn (Ringer) Siegfried. Jerry graduated from William Allen Senior High School, Class of 1949, and then studiedEntomology at Penn State University, where he earned his degree.
He started a long notable career in Entomology, working and traveling all over the world. As Chief Entomologist of the Saigon area & Chief of Utilities, Housing Services, he spent 8 years working in Vietnam with the goal of disease prevention, and 2 years in Saudi Arabia with Pacific Architects & Engineers. Returning to the States in 1979, his passion for his field garnered him the nickname of "The Oracle" by associates, while working as an Entomologist/Director of Technical Training at J.C. Ehrlich/Rentokil. He retired at the age of 82.
Jerry was an avid reader and had a thirst for knowledge. His love of travel and photography took him across the globe to destinations such as Southeast Asia, and Africa on safari with a local photography club.
Surviving are his brother, Clifford Siegfried and wife Linda, Calabash, NC; nephew, Jason Siegfried and wife Jessica, Raleigh, NC; niece Tara Mondin and husband Joe, and great niece, Ava Mondin, Emmaus, PA.
A private memorial will be held per the request of the family. Donations can be made in his memory to the Muhlenberg Community Library, www.muhlenbergcommunitylibrary.org.
