Oh, where to start! Liz was my "second" mother growing up. Her daughter Cheryl and I were best friends. She always welcomed me into her house no matter how dirty we were or whatever shenanigan's we were up too. She gave the best hugs and still did. She will be missed by so many! I am 100% positive that Mom was there greeting Liz with open arms! Until we meet again....

Hi, Miz Liz’:
As you know, I can’t write, and I know only one word, “Arf”. But I kind of get what’s going on at home, so, in the way that we four-legged types communicate with you two-leggers, I did ask that guy across the street who’s always nice to me if he could sense what I wanted to say and write it down for me. He said he’d try.
So, first I want to say “Thank you” for all that you’ve done for me: for giving me a safe and happy home when I needed it the most; for teaching me some manners, like after we played tug ‘o war at opposite ends of the leash (I knew I could take you down, ‘cause you didn’t weigh much more than I did, but …). I could sense that this was not meant to be some kind of power play, but more like one of your ways of keeping me safe from rolling school bus tires and stuff; for helping me learn social skills, like not terrorizing those little bitty dogs that came walking by just because I was bigger and prettier; for taking great care that I had the best food; for letting Mr. Leon get away with allowing me to run and sniff at the very end of the leash instead of always making me heel - he still does that, you know, so I get to smell everything from top to bottom, and sideways to Sunday; for getting me in shape to attend school to be a Certified Therapy Dog. That right there is a fun gig, I’ll tell you, plus none of my other four-leggers have a diploma like me. Lastly, I guess I want to thank you for just being you, because I sense you have the same love for other animals, people, and even plants that you showed for me. A+ for you!
One more thing: I’ve heard you talk about some other four-leggers that you cared for before me, one named Misty, and another named Molly the Collie, and maybe others. Listen, I’d really appreciate it if you happen to run across them wherever you are, to put in a good word for me. If I ever get to join you all, your good words might help offset some of my rough edges. You taught me the importance of making a good first impression, so anything you can do …
That’s all for now. ARF!

I met Liz when I lived in the Orange High Apartments in 1970! She and Leon were our downstairs neighbors. From that time, on, she has remained a constant in my life, whether in the community or in church. Her attitude of always trying to do the right thing is foremost. I am so sorry for her suffering and I know you will miss her; cherish your memories.

Liz Waters lived a wonderfully good life. While she will no longer be with us physically, she will appear to us in many ways in the days to come. She lived a life of quiet, elegant beauty as she served God and humankind. Her dedication to her family, her church, the children she taught, and to God's creation preached her personal eulogy as she walked on this earth. Filled with compassion, she helped so many live life more abundantly. She did all she could do to make this world a better place, and being the good teacher she was... she left the rest of us with homework. She would want us to carry on the good work she did not have time to complete. "Well done thou good and faithful servant." Now rest in peace as you sing with the angels. May you watch over us as we plant trees, purify streams, recycle everything that's not nailed down... Thank you, Liz, for showing us how to be caretakers of the earth and of each other.
Leon, Cheryl, and Mark, you were so lucky to have had her in your lives. Yes, you will miss her, but she will always be a very important part of your life. Thank you for sharing her with the rest of us. We are holding you in our hearts.
