Obituary of Matthew Justin Blake

Matthew (Matt) Justin Blake, 39, passed away October 5, 2021, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

 

Matt loved his family dearly and had many amazing friends. He especially loved spending time with them around a campfire. He was an Eagle Scout and a devoted Tar Heel fan. Matt loved animals (particularly horses and dogs), traveling, the beach, the lake, and car racing. He was the life of the party, loved to dance, and never met a stranger. He was a kindhearted man who will be greatly missed.

 

Matthew is survived by his wife, Vanessa Blake; his children, Ruby and Hunter; his parents Ted and Cindy Blake; his brother, Jason Blake (Ashley); niece, Jaylee; nephews, Dayton and Levi; Grandmama Ann Morris; Grandma Marie Blake; Grandma Sargent; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Cindy and Michael Sakach; brother-in-law, Ben Sakach; as well as his beloved cousins, aunts, uncles, and extended family.

 

He was preceded in death by his Poppa, Marvin Morris; Poppa Bill Blake; and his uncles, Kenneth (Kenny) Morris, and Bobby Blake.

 

Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday, October 10 at 2pm at Damascus Christian Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation is Saturday, October 9 from 4 to 6pm at Walker’s Funeral Home. Flowers are acceptable, or donations can be made to UNC Health Foundation. Please note Matthew Blake/UNC Hospitals Patient and Family Support Funds in the memo and mail to 123 W. Franklin St, Chapel Hill, NC 27516.
