My father was Betsy's brother, Samuel Tate Latta, III. They shared an abiding faith that was first nurtured at Little River Presbyterian. It is that faith that led my dad to meet my mother, Barbara Kay Blansett, at First Presbyterian in Fort Worth, TX. I was privileged to visit Little River once with Besty and John Thomas Walker in the summer of 2004, meeting many of my father's family and childhood friends, and paying my respects to their parents who are buried there. I enjoyed watching the hummingbirds on John & Betsy's back porch during that visit. I, too, love growing magnolia trees. From what I know of Betsy, she lived with the same strength and beauty that these trees exhibit. I will plant a tree in Betsy's memory next spring. -Gail

Betsy has been a friend of mine since meeting her in the late 1950s. I've stayed with John and Betsy many times over the years. Enjoyed seeing the family grow. She has been an an example of a Believer of Jesus for me. We connected through her Grandparents who hD a Jewelry Store in Keyport NJ. My prayers for each oh her "children" for comfort and strength. Betsy gifted me a Magnolia tree in 2006 when we moved into our home across from Betsy and John Thomas. The blooms were plentiful and beautiful this year. And I think about her every time I look at this beauty. Betsy was a ‘bonus grandma’ to my girls. She taught them how to make some of her special recipes and her sugar cookies are always part of our Christmas baking. Haven’t tackled her bread recipe but think it’s a must now. The girls loved getting off the bus at her house and there was usually a cool story to tell when I picked them up. I very much looked forward to our visits when I picked up the girls each day. When Abby was in London for a semester, Betsy and I talked frequently about the sites and experiences Abby was having. She reminisced about her time in Europe and told great stories of her adventure. She will be missed but holds a special place in the hearts of our family.
