Obituary of Essell R. Womble

Mr. Essell Roland Womble, 84 of Chapel Hill, NC passed away at Jim and Betsy Bryan Hospice Home in Pittsboro, NC on Friday August 27, 2021.
A native of Chapel Hill NC, Mr. Womble was the husband of Martha Womble, his loving wife of 60 years. The son of the late Roland and Mildred Womble, he was born and raised on Womble Farm where he enjoyed his family and loved to keep everything working properly on the farm. He was member of Damascus Congregational Christian Church.
He retired from UNC as a supervisor in the HVAC division with more than 30 years of service. In addition to his family and spending time on the farm, he loved restoring antique tractors and equipment. He loved to make homemade ice cream and deliver it to his friends. He always kept some in the freezer so he could offer a cup when people stopped for a visit.
Survivors other than his wife include a son, Danny Womble (Pam), two sisters, Irene Stevens and Brenda Kirby (Bill), and sister-in-law, Madeline Womble.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Numa Womble and a brother-in-law, Dick Stevens.
A private graveside service will be held at Cole-Womble Family Cemetery, Chapel Hill, NC. Private services are being held due to the covid pandemic.
Mr. Womble will be able to be viewed on Tuesday August 31, 2021 at Walker’s Funeral Home, 120 W. Franklin St. Chapel Hill, NC 27516 from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cole-Womble Family Cemetery, 2916 Damascus Church Rd., Chapel Hill, NC 27516 or to a favorite charity.
Walker’s Funeral Home in Chapel Hill is assisting the family.
