Obituary of Sara Elizabeth Tolar

Please share a memory of Sara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Sara Elizabeth Tolar peacefully entered eternal life on August 20th at the age of 82 with her loving husband of 64 years by her side.

Sara was born and raised in Cedar Grove, NC, the youngest of five children born to Hubert and Rosa Jobe of Carr. Sara was raised in a hardworking, farming family and was the salutatorian of her high-school class. Having gone to the same school from first through twelfth grades, Sara cheered her future husband on at basketball games as a cheerleader.

Sara married her lifelong partner, John, following graduation, and was a devoted wife and mother who faithfully supported her family in their life and career, spanning five states from Florida to Virginia. In every community they lived she was fully present and serving – helping with PTAs, volunteering as bookkeeper at church, making sewn crafts for fundraisers, baking delicious cakes for school and church functions, birthdays, holidays and more. So many memories from so many who remain are of the loving, caring, always tender, and always soft-spoken way that she touched so many lives.

In her later years, so many at their church remember how she and John would walk in slowly every Sunday, sit in the same seats, rise together to sing, and walk out slowly – always holding hands and always side-by-side – a model of marriage and the church.

Sara’s legacy lives on in her husband, John Tolar, of Hillsborough, daughters Mattie Rose Crowder and Janet McDuffie, grandchildren Joel Frady, Jonathan Crowder, Christopher McDufffie and Lindsay Lance, and two great-grandchildren, Ariel Lance and Emersyn McDuffie.

Along with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Sara is survived by son-in-law Sam McDuffie, grandson-in-law Chris Lance, granddaughters-in-law Jihyun Crowder, Shelby McDuffie and Cara Frady.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 A.M. on August 28th at Crosslink Community Church in Mebane, NC, with Pastor Ken Tilley officiating. Flowers may be sent to the church.

Condolences for the family may be left online at www.walkersfuneralservice.com.
