Obituary of Marjory Owen Gehring

Please share a memory of Marjory to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marjory Owen Klutz Gehring passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, October 25, 2012 at UNC Memorial Hospital with her family at her side. She was born September 7, 1937 in Charlotte, NC to the late Henry Vance Klutz, Jr. and Eveline Patterson Klutz. She graduated from Statesville High School in 1955 and attended Woman's College at the University of North Carolina (UNC-Greensboro). She is survived by her son Robert Steven Schafer (wife Karen Carter) of Durham, NC; daughter Robin Schafer Tyndall (husband Tom) of Sugar Grove, NC; grandchildren Iris and Chloe Carter-Schafer, Matthew and Sarah Tyndall; sister Patsy K. King of Bay City, Texas; brother Henry Vance ("Skip") Klutz III of Kitty Hawk, NC and sister Judith Klutz Eagle of Wilmington, NC. She is also survived by husband, Charles Ives Gehring, Jr. of Oak Grove, KY. In addition, Marjory, with her big heart, was a "second shed mom" to many. Previously employed by Woodbury Insurance as an Account Executive, she was for many years active in the Wilmington Homebuilders Association. She was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and also attended Henson Chapel UMC in Vilas, NC. Marjory supported political causes her entire life with the belief that social and economic justice were directly tied to faith-based values. She had a special passion for horses and riding, loved and visited her beloved Blue Ridge Mountains as often as possible, especially during the Blowing Rock Horse Show events. Her faith and inner strength were inspirational even as her illness became insurmountable. She loved a good laugh and cracked jokes with her family hours before her passing. The family will receive visitors on Saturday, November 10 from 2-4pm at the residence in Hampstead, NC. A private service in the mountains will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the NC Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or the Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show. Marge/Mom, a few short paragraphs come nowhere close to describing what you meant to us. You are loved and missed by many as a loving mother and grandmother, a dear friend, and an inspiration to those who knew you. Online condolences may be sen to www.walkersfuneralservice.com
