Daniel Berry

Daniel Forest Berry, 83, born in Caldwell, NC, went home to be with the Lord on July 19th, 2021. He was preceded in death by parents Jerome and Clara Berry, brothers Lennox, JG, and Roy Berry, and sisters Hazel Cagle and Pearl Simpson. He is survived by his wife Edith Berry, children Sonya Tolin (Rusty) and Jay Berry (Lori), grandchildren Courtney Geels (Bryan), Grant Berry, and Caleb Tolin, brother Coy Berry, sisters Grace Parker, Marybelle Jordan, Virgilene Poplin. Daniel worked for Durham Life Insurance Company for most of his professional career, and people knew him as the “Bubble Gum Man” as he loved to pass out bubble gum to the kids. After his time at Durham Life Insurance company, he worked part-time as a mail carrier. He ended his career at Orange County Recycling Center. He loved all athletics, baseball and golf in particular, and could be found most evenings at a local baseball game. He was the president of HYAA baseball. He was an outdoor enthusiast. He enjoyed golfing, quail and rabbit hunting, cycling, and trail walking. He was a member and senior advisor of Mars Hill Baptist Church and was a volunteer at OCIM. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps for two years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to HYAA baseball, 220 Orange Grove St. Hillsborough, NC 27278, and the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, 1942 Capital Blvd. Raleigh, NC 27604. Funeral services are planned on Friday, July 23rd, 2021 at Walker Funeral Home in Hillsborough, NC at 3:00pm with a visitation at 2:00pm. Graveside service will be held at Little River Presbyterian Church following the service. The service will be live-streamed to the Walker Funeral Home website.
