MEBANE - Frederick Eugene Dudley, Senior, 89, of 432 West Carr Street, Mebane, one of the few remaining Greatest Generation, has been lifted into the arms of our Lord and Savior to be reunited with his sweetheart bride and his beloved son. Father "Pawpaw" passed in the arms of his daughter, surrounded by family.
Frederick was born February 6, 1923, in Columbus, GA, but spent the majority of his life in Mebane, NC, where he was a graduate of Mebane High School and Burlington Business College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving as a gunner on the U.S.S. Cabot (CVL-28) during World War II. He was a member of the U.S.S. Cabot Association, the VFW, and the Bingham Lodge #272. Frederick was retired from Kingsdown in Mebane, where he formally served as president of the Kingsdown '04 Club. He was a member of the Mebane United Methodist Church, an usher for many years. He was dedicated to delivering programs and the Sandwich Ministry. He was known for his avid gardening and silent kindness. Frederick was a brilliant, gentle soul with a Mayberry approach to life.
Frederick was the son of the late Mary Langley Dudley. He is preceded in death by his bride of sixty-two years, Margaret "Peggy" Ann Hooks Dudley, and his son, Frederick Eugene Dudley, Jr. Survivors include his daughter, Susan Dudley Belangia (Clyde) of Mebane and daughter-in-law Lucy Liipfert Dudley of Fort Valley, Georgia; Brother and sister-in-law Frances and Grover Hooks of Winston-Salem. Grandchildren include Joseph "Jody" Belangia (Justine) of Mebane, Frederick MacLean "Mac" Belangia of Mebane, Margaret Dudley of Florida, Patty Dudley Thomson (John) of Georgia, and Rebecca Dudley Carmichael (Todd) of Colorado. Great grandchildren include Reeves, Colin, Langley Kate, and Maggie.
The funeral service will be conducted at Mebane United Methodist Church on Friday, November 9, at 3pm by Rev. Dr. Bryan Faggart. Graveside services with military rite to follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Edgewood Place and Hospice of Alamance in Burlington.
