Contributions to the tribute of Nancy Keeler Wilson

I met Nancy at a chamber music workshop at UNC Chapel Hill around 1997. With Earl Dhus (also posted here) we formed a woodwind quintet in the triangle area - called Wood, Brass, and Ivory (apparently later renamed). We used to alternate between rehearsing at Nancy's house and my house, just down the road. We had great fun playing together and performing. Nancy was a lovely person, generous with her time and resources and a great chamber music player. I remember her family, her pets, and her tremendous zest for life in all forms. I moved to California in 2003 and did not get back much to NC so I have not kept up with her and I was very very saddened to hear about her passing.

I learned just today of Nancy's passing. First, my condolences and prayer for peace to all who are deeply affected by this loss. Second, I just want to say that as an oboist who began trying to play this instrument very late in life, I looked up to Nancy, and frankly was a little jealous of all that she achieved. Hers was a well-lived life, and I celebrate her having been here with us .

I have played in numerous musical groups with Nancy. For the past 18 years it was with Mimosa Winds. Before that we played in a woodwind quintet with Pat Pukkila, Steve Pizer and Chris Myers. We had many interesting times in the pit orchestras for Long Leaf Opera and Durham Savoyards. I cherish these times I had with Nancy as a musician and a friend.

Nancy and I formed the woodwind quintet now called the Mimosa Quintet probably in 1997. Over the years we came to know each other quite well and I discovered that Nancy was a very extraordinary person with numerous gifts and a very big heart. Since moving to Williamsburg, VA two years ago we have not seen each other but I have often thought of her during that time. Knowing she is no longer in this world saddens me. The world is poorer because she is no longer here. Earle Dhus Williamsburg, VA
