Obituary of Frank Aloysius Loda

Chapel Hill – Dr. Frank Aloysius Loda, 86, died at his home Wednesday, April 14, 2021.
Dr. Loda was born in Texarkana, AR, on December 7, 1934 to the late Frank Sellmeyer and Muriel Kline Loda. He was educated in the Texarkana schools and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard University, Class of 1956, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa honor society. Dr. Loda received his PhD from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, graduating in 1960. It was here that he met his wife, Barbara Ann White Loda.
Dr. Loda served his residency in Pediatric Medicine at the University of Washington before relocating to Chapel Hill, NC in 1964 to begin his tenure at UNC Hospitals, retiring in 2001. In 1988, Dr. Loda was named the director of the Center for Early Adolescence, serving for many years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and Pediatrician.
In addition to his wife of 54 years, Dr. Loda is survived by his children, Dr. Margaret Amanda Loda, and her husband, Brent P. Boger, of Lexington, NC, David Gregory Loda, and his wife, Zuzana, of Olomouc, Czech Republic, Matthew Aloysius Loda, of Folly Beach, SC; and his grandchildren, Amanda Brooke Boger, Natalie Blyth Boger, Thomas Benjamin Loda.
A memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at 2:30pm at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Those attending will be asked to wear facial coverings and observe social distancing. To livestream the service, please use the link on the left.
