Dear Pete and boys, I was stunned to learn of Diane’s passing. I remember our friendship from so many years ago and have missed it. I remember Diane telling me she was pregnant with Michael the day I told her I was pregnant with Hallie. Milt passed away 18 months ago. You are in my prayers. Would love to see you if you ever get back to Buffalo. Sue Joffe

(The following tribute was written by my parents's longtime friends the Quinlans, a friendship that dates over 4 decades. Please read. Just wonderful.)
Diane Waggoner packed a powerhouse of capability and quality into that petite, little, lady-like frame of hers.
She was a loving wife, a nurturing mother, dutiful daughter, a style-setting business partner, a comforting, capable nurse, a good friend, and an elegant entertainer at her home...all in one.
As the proprietress of The Squire Shop, she could charm, and exceed the highest expectations, of the most demanding customer to walk in the door. As a nurse, she could calm, and deliver assurance, to a concerned patient that everything would be all right, and then do her part to make it happen. When she entertained you in their home, her exquisite taste in China, silver, and linens was surpassed only by the energy she put into preparing a beautiful evening of gourmet food, and yet made it all seem effortless, and put you completely at ease. In fact “putting you at ease” was her hallmark... from the moment you met her, and carrying through decades of knowing her, she was a delight to have as a friend. Even her parents were put at ease...every morning...by her call to them!
Like every mother, she was visited by all of the highs and lows of raising three sons. But, like only a few, outstanding mothers, she was blessed with knowing when to apply the soft, loving salve of comfort, or the snappy, raised eyebrow of correction. Mostly encouragement was all that was called for. And the “boys” are living evidence of her success.
Pete of course was the happiest recipient and greatest beneficiary of her admirable combination of qualities. Theirs was a dance that moved with the various music that played for 54 years. Diane was Pete’s partner, his inspiration, his motivation, and his great joy. She could be hilariously sarcastic. Or richly insightful. But always deeply loving. He thrived on all of her many facets. He returned them in kind. And the dance was beautiful...and fun!
Offered with our prayers and lots of happy memories,
MaryCaye and Lawlor Quinlan

I so shocked and upset at the loss of Diane. Unfortunately we were traveling at the time of the funeral and unable to attend. She was one of my favorite friends. We laughed a lot together and always had fun things to talk about. My condolences to Pete and her sons and family members. She is a huge loss in my life and in our community.

Although it's been many years since I've seen Mrs. Waggs, this woman holds such a special place in my heart. I was always in awe of her big spirit for such a tiny woman when I was a kid! She and Mr. Waggs are two of my parents' faves, and we are so saddened by this loss. My favorite memory that always makes me laugh is how much Mrs. Waggs would yell at her boys to stop eating so much cereal and drinking so much milk. My mom would bring Craig and I over for visits and there would be cereal boxes all over the kitchen. lol! RIP, Mrs. Waggs, and much love to the whole fam!

I had the honor of being Diane's first neice--from what I hear she was there from the very beginning, my crowning and all (lol); so literally my earliest memories are with her and the Waggoners. Whether on Hamilton Drive with parents drinking Labatts on the stoop while kids ran around, or at Cedar Bay where she cut the seaweed out of my hear and introduced me to my first pixie cut, to living a block away most of my childhood. Aunt Diane was always present--she was my mother's "eyes" when mom wasn't around.
I will always remember her singing around the piano at Christmas, always dressed to the nines, doing headstands on the sidewalk in Rehoboth, and taking long walks/talks at the Outer Banks.
I will miss her so much--but especially her Aunt Di voice, her birthday calls, and her enthusiasm at any life milestone. I miss you already Aunt Diane, but know you are still watching over all of us from above. Love you and BIg Huge Hugs to the rest of the Waggoners.....Always, Marcy

All our love for Aunt Diane. So many memories of times together at the beach, family meals & holiday celebrations. I can hear Diane's laugh and see her genuine smile in my mind. Even after I moved many miles away from Chapel Hill, Aunt Diane always remembered and reached out to wish me a happy birthday. She had a way to make us all feel like we are special & loved by her. We will very much miss you Aunt Diane.

Rob and family - one of her favorite memories was Thanksgiving in Austin a few years back. I will definitely miss the texts reminding me of whose birthday was coming up! Uncle Dutch said she was the family encyclopedia! Was very important to her and reiterates how thoughtful she was.

May the memories you share bring you comfort in the days ahead. I will deeply miss my dear friend. I will always remember when we first met. Diane was very pregnant with Michael and Diane and Pete were temporarily living across the street from us. She was so friendly and gregarious with a great smile. Three weeks later she was hosting a meeting at her new house, slim as ever as if the pregnancy was a mirage. We were all envious!! We have been friends through the trials and tribulations that life throws at you. I will Miss that raspy voice saying “hello and how are you!”

Aunt Diane, you will be so missed. I am so grateful for your influence on my life and the time you got to spend with my baby boy. His love for you was instant. And my love is ever lasting. RIP
Memory: My Mom used to cut the crust off of the bread on my sandwiches. I was a very delicate flower, So, when I was a little kid we were on a family beach trip and Aunt Diane had lunch duty and put a "crusted" sandwich down in front of me. Of course I was outraged and demanded the crust be removed immediately. Aunt Diane looked at me like I was insane and told me to eat the GD sandwich. It was a pretty good sandwich. I have eaten crust ever since. So tough. So full of love.

Memories of the way we were:
Our friendship began went Diane &Pete started dating. It was the 1960’s when life was full of love, laughter, and music.
We partied, sang, and danced through the years. We were married the same summer, and began raising our families.
The party’s continued with dinner clubs; tennis leagues; rental summer cottages in Canada- much fun & sun on the beach.
Snyder N.Y. & Christ the King were left behind as Roy and I moved to Minnesota- Diane and Pete to North Carolina
Fortunately we were able to visit Chapel Hill ; they returned with visits to Minnetonka and Boynton Beach, Florida.
Diane will be greatly missed though not forgotten. Rest In Peace , dear friend until we meet again.

No one rocked the pixie like Diane! My parents have a lifetime of memories that would make you laugh as hard as they are in this picture on my wedding day. Growing up we told everyone we were cousins with Peter, Scott, and Michael. Although so young, I have strong memories of being around Diane. Diane's presence in life will be missed immensely. My prayers of sympathy and support go out to your family as you go through this incredibly painful and difficult loss in your lifetime.

Oh and one of the most important memories is Momma Waggs always said "I have a funny story to tell you" (even the last time I was with her I ask her to tell me a funny story) She would always tell me that they don't think its funny, but her friends got it, and my response was "i get it and think it is truly a hilarious story" I got her humor and she got mine, XOXOX, Margarite
