I just learned of this loss. I am so sorry. I knew Barbara mostly in the 1990s when she was a tremendous inspiration and help to me with her artistic view point of setting ones self free through drawing. Her approach to creating art has had a definitive influence on my performance art as well as on my painting. Thank you so much Barbara, for being so wonderful!
My heart-felt condolences to you all. Virginia Meldahl

I am so sorry to hear of Barbara's passing. We grew up in Annandale and we lived across the hall from one another at Stonegate apartments while we were at Virginia Tech for 3 years. My roommate, Nora and I, and Barbara and Monique had an open door policy. What fun times we had, while encouraging each other to persevere through Tech! What a blessing it is to have known her. Her lovely laugh and beautiful blue eyes that always sparkled with warmth. She truly was a gift to this world. Please know that her/your entire family is in my thoughts and prayers. Barbara will never be forgotten!

I can still remember as a child looking up to my older cousin Barbara, whom I thought of as strong as beautiful. True perception, as it turns out. Her grace and humor shone through even in the face of a dire diagnosis. I know she will be sorely missed by her wonderful family. Sending love and comfort to all of you. Love, your cousin/niece Marie

I never met Barbara but I knew about her through my friend and her lovely sister, Helen. I heard about her kind and beautiful soul, her generosity, and her deep wisdom. Barbara's death is a great loss but how wonderful that she had 59 years on this earth to share all her goodness and make the world a better place. May God grant you all peace and hope as you grieve.

I remember Barb and Genevieve from our home school days and the cello studio of Leslie Alperin. Barb was always a calm, yet strong presence; always kind and loving. My son enjoyed the creative architecture enrichment class she taught with our homeschool community. I'm so sorry to hear about her illness and passing. What a loss to her family and our community in Chapel Hill. I feel blessed to have been touched by her life.

I am so very sad that Barbara has passed. I was grateful to sing with her so many years in the choir, and, to get to know her as a kind and loving mother to her super talented children. I was blessed that she used her considerable architectural design talents to help design a beautiful office treehouse office in my home that i will always cherish. To Karoline, her sister, her children and her whole family, my prayers are with you. I hope the happy memories with Barbara stay with you all your days. She will be missed.

Barbara was so talented musically. I loved standing next to her in our alto section because I knew I would stay on tune with right timing. Her piano skills were also helpful at times to our Newman choir.
My prayers are with the family in their loss, especially her talented daughter on the violin. Peace and joy Noreen Ordronneau

Barbara was the first friend I had when I joined the Newman Center in 2012. When I heard about her artistic and architecture background and that she worked for Wes Lachot Design Group on world class music-recording studios, I was impressed . She invited me to visit her work with Wes Lachot and that was an incredible experience. We shared similar talents so our friendship was strong. I will miss this special lady!

Genevieve, Frances, et al: I am so very, very sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. She was a special woman who could not have been prouder of her children, and gave them wings to fly in their musical talents. I will cherish the short time I had with her, whether in the choir or going on verrrrry cold runs Friday mornings. Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Love, Jeannie

Incredibly beautiful, and amazingly nice, Barbara had the most enchanting chuckling laugh ever heard (outside the Richter's house that is!). An indomitable spirit of stoic joy and fortitude, the world is lessened, unrightfully so. May love help us to overcome grief, may her light shine forever.

I think of Barbara and just smile, she was so kind and generous. I loved being near her and so enjoyed the crazy funny family stories she would tell. She was so, so smart, I wouldn’t have passed high school chemistry without her tutoring. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

The loss of Barbara is difficult to handle. I will never forget singing in the Newman Center choir with Barbara and her daughter who accompanied beautifully on violin, both of them such talented musicians. They were always so kind and welcoming which meant the world to me. All of us are diminished with her loss. My prayers and condolences go to her family and friends,
Sue Field
