Cassandra “Cassie” Ferrell died in her home on June 24, 2020 due to complications following pancreatic cancer.  She was 59.

Mrs. Ferrell was born on May 19, 1961 in Tazewell County, VA to her parents, Joseph and Minnie Dobson.  She graduated from Pfeiffer University with a master’s degree in Business and Healthcare administration and held many other degrees and certifications.  She married Michael Ferrell in 1995.  The Ferrell’s moved to Chapel Hill when their oldest child was accepted to attend UNC and made this area their home for the remainder of her life.

Mrs. Ferrell was a nurse throughout her career and started as a candy striper as a teenager and, in different capacities, provided care and comfort to others for over forty years.  Her greatest joy was helping take care of others, be it her family or the patients placed in her care.   She loved being part of her team at UNC Hospital and shared many fun stories of their time together.  Cassandra was also a devoted mother and wife and loved her family dearly.  She enjoyed all the interesting adventures they had together and will be missed by all those around her.

Mrs. Ferrell is survived by husband, Michael Ferrell; her daughter, Sarah Ferrell of the home; her mother Elizabeth; and brother Henry Dobson.  She is preceded in death by her father, Joseph Dobson.
