Obituary of Lillie Ruth Womble

Lillie Ruth Poe Womble, 96 of Carrboro passed away June 20, 2020 at home with family by her side.
She was born November 13, 1923 to Sidney Ben Poe and Glada Booker Poe in Wake County. She is survived by her children Jerry Womble Carpenter (Ron) of Mt Pleasant, SC, Eddie Womble (Settle) of Carrboro, NC and Gina Womble Walker (David) of Chapel Hill, NC, her four grandchildren, Ron II Carpenter (Joelle), Mary Hamlin Womble Trappe (Nate), Fletcher Womble Kieckbusch (Paul) and Wade Womble and six great grandchildren Carp, Holden and Carswell Carpenter, Covington and LillieMaie Kieckbusch and Baren Trappe, her sisters-in-law Glennie Nash Poe and Nan Womble Carroll and many loving nieces and nephews.
Ruth worked in Medical Records at NC Memorial (UNC) Hospital for 30 years. She also helped her husband Wallace, who was Manager and Funeral Director at Walker’s Funeral Home in Chapel Hill, during visitations greeting visitors and providing coffee and snacks. She was famous for her pound cake and angel squares that she sold at the Carrboro Farmers Market for years. Until recent years when her health prevented it, she was an active member of Carrboro United Methodist Church where she helped with fund raising activities and provided flowers in the vestibule from her garden most Sundays during spring and summer.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Wallace, her sisters Louise Pate, Mattie Pendergrass, and Bonnie Mann, her brothers Thomas Poe and Buddy Poe.
The family would like to express their deepest thanks and gratitude to Lisa Oxendine and April Orozco with Native American Angels who loved, cared for and supported Ruth and her family this past year and the doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers at UNC Hospice.

Due to COVID-19 there will be a private family service.
Walker's Funeral Home in Chapel Hill is assisting the family.
