Mr. Raymond Eldridge Pendergrass of Carrboro, NC, Age 79 passed away at Duke Hospital, January 22.
He was born to James Atlas Pendergrass and Bessie Horne Pendergrass on December 9, 1933. He was a graduate of Chapel Hill High School and served in the Army during the Korean War.
Raymond retired from BCBS after 27 years of service. He had previously worked for the city of Carrboro, Chapel Hill Police Department and The Copy Shop of Glen Lennox. During his career in printing, he served as the President of the In plant Printing Managers Association. Raymond also was a member of the American Legion Post in Chapel Hill and was a faithful member of Carrboro United Methodist Church in Carrboro NC.
Raymond was Preceded in death by his wife Helen Jean Lewis Pendergrass, and is survived by his three children, Timothy Ray Pendergrass & wife Gina of Riverview FL, David Kent Pendergrass & wife Carol of Wilmington NC, Jeana Pendergrass Walton of Creedmoor NC, and nine grandchildren. Kyle & wife Jessica, Chris & wife Kim, Kent, Maggie, Zack, Jamie, and Amanda. Brother Jack & wife Rose Pendergrass of Durham NC., Sister-in-law Mattie Pendergrass, wife of his brother Alfred Pendergrass of Durham NC.. Several nieces, nephews, and close friends.
His service will be held at Carrboro United Methodist Church in Carrboro NC. On Saturday January 26th at 11:00 a.m., with a brief graveside service to follow. The family will be receiving visitors prior to the service starting at 10:00 a.m., until shortly before the service. After the graveside service the family invites all to gather for a time of refreshments and a celebration of Raymond's life in the church fellowship hall.
