Obituary of Samuel Woods Borland

Please share a memory of Samuel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Samuel W. Borland, Sr., 94, of Cedar Grove, passed away in the comfort of his home Friday, January 24, 2020, following a brief illness.  Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Parker Borland, as well as his parents, Wallace and Mary Boland, brothers, Hughes Boland and John Boland and great-granddaughter, Christy Brown Johnson.

During WWII, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy throughout the South Pacific.  Sam then came home to settle in Cedar Grove, on the farm where he was born and raised.  Sam retired from both Western Electric and GKN Automotive Components.  He also worked for Troxler Electronics, Alamance Community College and the Cedar Grove Post Office.

Sam is survived by his 7 children:  Dianne (Larry) Brown, Sam (Betty) Borland, Jr., Steve Borland, Betty Borland, Bobbi (Mac) Cabe, Sandy (Darryl) Rimmer and Wendy Borland; 10 grandchildren:  Todd Brown, Travis Brown, Jeff (Jamie) Borland, Kyle (Shannon) Borland, Stephanie Borland, Johnathan (Courtney) Riddle, Billy (Kristen) Riddle, Josh (Cameron Tivnan) Hudson, Zachary (Olivia Huntley) Rimmer and Garret Rimmer; 15 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.  He is also survived by his sister Mary Pixley.

In past years, Sam loved working in his garden with his vegetables and wildflowers and his workshop, if he couldn't find a tool, he'd make it.  There is nothing that made him happier than being surrounded by the conversations and laughter of his children and grandchildren, that he loved wholeheartedly.

Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. Tuesday, January 28th at Eno Presbyterian Church in Cedar Grove.  There will be a graveside service following the visitation at the Eno cemetery.  His 10 grandchildren will honor him as his pallbearers.  The family welcomes family and friends to the residence following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Alamance-Caswell for their services during this difficult time as well as his caregiver Jamie Lynn.

Walker's Funeral Home of Hillsborough is serving the family.
