Obituary of Alice Hazlett Kessing

CHAPEL HILL Alice Hazlett Kessing died peacefully, surrounded by her family on February 9, 2013. She was born in Honolulu, on October 30, 1931, the daughter of Captain Edward and Elizabeth ("Ibby") Hazlett. A UNC graduate, she lived most of her life in Chapel Hill, where she served the community through her work at the Caring and Sharing Center and the Child Care Services Association. Her Catholic faith was precious to her and she was an example of Christian love and charity to her family and community. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Jonas Warren Kessing, Sr. and her parents. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Hazlett Scott of Chambersburg, PA, her five treasured children, Diane Kessing Jaskot (Jay) of Richmond, VA; Joan Kessing Driscoll (Rick) of Atlanta, GA; Ned Kessing (Kathy) of Apex, NC; Jonas Warren Kessing, Jr. (Ginger) of Chapel Hill, Alice Mott Kessing, nine loving grandchildren, and her faithful dog, "Middie." A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Thursday, February 14, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a reception at the church, and interment at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery. A visitation will be Wednesday, February 13, from 6pm until 8pm at Walker's funeral home in Chapel Hill, NC In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to Child Care Services Association 1829 East Franklin Street, Building 1000, P.O.
