Obituary of Jay Christopher Meyer
Jay Christopher Meyer, 73, passed away on August 16, 2019, surrounded by his family. Jay was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Crunden Meyer of Newton, NC; his parents Joseph Nicholas Meyer and Ruth Thielen Meyer of Cincinnati, OH; and his brother Paul Meyer of Cincinnati, OH. He is survived by his daughter Katherine (Steven) Dixon of Pittsboro, NC; daughter Christine (Dan) Hamilton of Overland Park, KS; his granddaughter Madeline Dixon of Pittsboro, NC; and his brother Dick (Ginny) Ingle of Cincinnati, OH.
Originally from Cincinnati, OH, Jay received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania. He met his wife, Barbara, in Houston, TX, where he lived for years and fell in love with everything Texas. He and Barbara married on May 16, 1981 in Hewlett, NY and had their twin daughters in Houston on May 17, 1985. Jay lived in Newton, NC for over 25 years where he was a successful attorney and Assistant District Attorney for Catawba County.
Jay loved playing golf, rescuing stray animals, and playing cards. He most recently lived in Carrboro, NC, where he enjoyed playing bingo and cards with friends. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor and lively story telling.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Friday, August 23 at Walkers Funeral Home of Chapel Hill. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Chapel Hill-Carrboro Meals on Wheels.
