Obituary of Samuel Murphy Cates

EFLAND - Samuel Murphy Cates, 91, died Saturday, February 9, 2013. He retired from White Furniture Company after 45 years of service and was also a farmer. He was a member of Chestnut Ridge United Methodist Church. He was married to the late Genovia Doris Crabtree Cates for 57 years. Surviving are his sons: Allen Cates (Faye),Efland, Lambert Cates (Joan), Efland, Paul James Cates (Kathleen), Hillsborough, Johnny C. Cates (Peggy), Efland, Rickey C. Cates, Mebane, Earl M. Cates (Katie), Efland, and Kent Cates (Renae), Efland, his daughters, Faydean C. Cannada (Les), Efland, Snodean C. Logan (Russell), Mebane, and Susan Cates, Timberlake, and 24 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, two sons, Murphy Samuel Cates and Homer A. Cates, his brothers, Luther Cates and Daniel Cates, and his sister, Viola Jackson. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday at Chestnut Ridge United Methodist Church by Mr. Tim Best and the Rev. Bobby Tate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30-9 PM Monday in Walkers Funeral Home of Hillsborough and at other times the family will be at Johnny Cates, 3102 West Ten Road, Efland.
