I worked with Joan while she was the Director of the Epidemiology, Demography and Biometry Program of the National Institute on Aging, NIH. She was a respected leader, a mentor and a true friend. I enjoyed our conversations over the years and our friendly University of Maryland – UNC basketball rivalry. She will be missed.
