Carrie’s Prayer For Grant:

Grant and I wish to thank all of our loved ones for supporting us through the years, today and always.  He loved us all in his own special way, as we did him.  Life is sometimes short and simple for the angels of this world, as their spirit is needed in the great beyond.  I will always think of Grant not only as my son, but my best friend and one of those angels.  His soul will continue to expand with time and the universe.  He has shared with me the great pleasures of life, and protected me through dark moments.  He will always reside within me and I within him.

In life Grant took the road less traveled.  His own individual path be it his love of books, reading and music, learning to glass blow, play guitar, poetry and drawing.  His travels around the country to various organic farms, staying with families and camping out.  He was able to work with a variety of farm animals, which he loved.  He especially loved our family cats and the big love of his life our family dog Annabel.  Annabel will miss him greatly.  We both loved when he walked into the room - big, strong, protecting, loving, manly.

Today I put his body to rest, but may his soul and spirit soar.  May his grandparents, Uncle John and generations preceding, take him under their wings.  May Donald show him the beauty of this earth and universe through the camera lens.  May Grant reside peacefully under the sheltering big Carolina blue skies, green pastures, and the trees of his birth place in North Carolina.

I will always love my Grant more than life itself.  May I be blessed to share eternity with him.

In Grant’s words ……“Ford F-150’s get shit done, and real people travel by bus and trains!"

Goin' home, goin' home, by the riverside

i will rest my bones,
Listen to the river sing sweet songs, to rock my soul.

Going to plant a weeping willow,
On the bank's green edge it will grow, grow, grow.
Sing a lullaby beside the water,
Lovers come and go, the river roll, roll, roll.

Fare you well, fare you well,

i love you more than words can tell,
Listen to the river sing sweet songs, to rock my soul.

Reach out your hand if your cup be empty,
If your cup is full may it be again,
Let it be known there is a fountain,
That was not made by the hands of men.

There is a road, no simple highway,
Between the dawn and the dark of night,
And if you go no one may follow,
That path is for your steps alone.

- Ripple, Grateful Dead
