Obituary of Marietta LeCompte Ray

HILLSBOROUGH - Mrs. Marietta LeCompte Ray, 89, died Friday, February 22, 2013. She was a native of Louisiana where she grew up in the bayous. She played semi-pro softball. During WWII she worked in the New Orleans shipyard as a welder. In 1946 she moved to N.C. and to Orange County in 1951 to farm. She was a member of Chestnut Ridge United Methodist Church where she was very active in many church functions until her death. Surviving are three daughters: Andrea R. Lewis (Bob), Hillsborough, Susan R. Aiken (Don), Creedmoor, and Laura R. Pennington (Doug), Burlington; one son Harvey Ray, Prospect Hill; 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her Husband Harvey Ray, her parents, Estelle and Sidney LeCompte, her son, Danny, and her granddaughter, Jenny. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday, March 1, in Chestnut Ridge UMC. Visitation will be 10-11 AM Friday prior to the service.
