Gerry I waited as long as I could. I love you. You were one of my best friends. I’m in vegas right now and the first time I ever came out here was with you. My heart is hurt. Gerry was a gentle giant of a man, who left an impression on all he met, the most lasting of which was his boundless humor, booming laughter, and his kindness.
I remember his uncanny ability with animals, as if they could sense his gentle nature instinctively, despite what his large and looming presence would otherwise indicate. It truly was remarkable, but they knew, what those who have had the blessing to have spent time in his presence, his heart was as big as his stature and his nature was gentle and kind.
It is said that to know a great loss, one must also have known great love, and for those who were honored by Gerry’s love and friendship, have surely known a great love. Ooh how lucky to have been loved so well by such a wonderfully wild and free spirit.
With my deepest condolences, I send our prayers for comfort and God’s healing embrace during this most difficult time. Gerry touched the lives of so many, in so many ways, his absence will be so hard for so very many.

Gerry was one of the nicest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. He was a Tar Heel diehard and was one of the first people I would look for at our tailgate. Gerry will be greatly missed. This is a huge loss not only to the Yow family but to the community of friends and loved ones who knew and loved Gerry.
He was a wonderful person and great friend. He was larger than life and loved by many. Gerry lit up the room and was the life of the party he had that IT factor that charisma everyone talks of. I have countless fond memories and enough funny stories with Gerry to make a couple Burt Reynolds movies that I will hold dear and treasure
I can’t say the name Gerry Yow without smiling and recalling fond memories or funny stories because he was always right there in the middle of it and doing something to make you laugh.

I have a bus I put on infield at Charlotte. Im a rather big boy like Gerry but not as tall. I have a hug bed at back of bus no body would come a mess with me while resting, but gerry would walk on the bus and ask for me and he would come to the back of the bus and grab ahold of me and just start yelling how he wiped my butt. As we laughed he would smile and say I really never want to know if he could and I'd aught as he got up and I'd say me neither, but tag team is never out of the question. Sweet Gerry, gentile giant os a man, always kind, always a friendly smile, loved his animals, UNC and outdoors. I remember two special times at Antioch: 1. He brought a squirrel to church to share with classmates (and I hear the squirrel lived for years until the farm cat ate him) 2. Gerry was in our Easter Pageant and dressed in full shepherd boy costume, brought one of his lambs ( not a baby) down the aisle for Sacrifice...he was perfectly comfortable calmly talking to the lamb and keeping him quiet.
