Gerald Vincent Manders, affectionally known as Jerry, died peacefully Tuesday morning March 5, 2019 at the Presbyterian Home of Hawfields in Mebane, N.C. at age 91.
Born September 20, 1927 in Wrightstown, Wisconsin, to the late George and Barbara Kempen Manders, Jerry was the youngest of 14 children who are all deceased and waiting on him to be with them. His oldest daughter Mary (Manders) Smet passed away in 2012 to be with their Lord. A hardy man of few words, Jerry was born into a Dutch farming family and worked hard to help his family and many others throughout his life in every way possible. During World War II Jerry became a pipefitter working in the Florida shipyards, then driving truck, doing tree work, roofing and eventually retiring from 25 years maintenance engineering for the state of Wisconsin. After moving to North Carolina in 1999 he worked with his children in construction and raising bison. His hobbies included recycling metal, playing cards, and riding his 4 wheeler as long as possible.
Mr. Manders is survived by his 2 sons, Mike, and his wife, Patricia, Mark; and daughter, Linda Peloquin, and her husband, Jeff; and Mary's husband, Don Smet. Many grandchildren and great-granchildren remain to remember him.
A funeral service for Jerry will be held at Union Grove UMC in Hillsborough on Friday March 8 at 4:00 preceeded by a viewing at 3:00 for friends and family alike. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The Manders family is under the care of Walker's Funeral Home of Hillsborough.
