I always enjoyed seeing Mr. Strayhorn in the mornings on Union St. Sittting in his chair waiting on the bus. I would say good morning and wave at him when I would pick up the paper for the Eidenier's and care for their cat. It took him a couple of times and then he would wave and smile. Some times ask me the time or date. I saw him in the grocery store once and he recognized me and smiled. It made my day! I missed his chair and wondered why it was gone. Mrs Eidenier told me he may not be able to come home again. The street is not the same without him. He is missed. I know he is on the streets of gold now with The Good Lord and his family that went before him. I am so sorry for your loss. Sincerely Glenora Ray

I had the privilege of working with Harold for many years. He had a great life, awesome family and supportive community. No matter what was going on I always got a smile every day when Harold said “ain’t it a pretty day!”

Harold was a sweet soul. I enjoyed seeing him daily at the Pharmacy when he came in to get his coke and to get his pulse checked. He had to tell us about his day at work and ask us what color socks we were wearing. We all enjoyed having him at our Christmas Party as well and sure missed him this year and for sure the years to come. Prayers to his sisters that took such great care of him, he was loved by many.

Hello! SO sad. A man whom I have known ALL my life Even went to Hillsborough High when he did. Back then, Grades 1 - 12 were all in one school. Then every day he would walk downtown to get his soft drink! Fastest walker in town-- second to the old man they called Mayo! So many memories of old Hillsborough! Harold was a constant at First Baptist - and attended with his sisters every Sunday. Hats off to the sisters who gave their time and love to being sure Harold was taken care of in his home, rather than a "home" -until recently when evidently, health reasons caused his placement otherwise. I do not know of anyone who deserves thankful best wishes than this family! Harold and his sisters were children of Lucille Walker Strayhorn, first cousin to my mother Margaret Walker Phelps! So we are all related for sure!
