Obituary of Elizabeth Walker Preston

     Elizabeth (Betsy) Jane Walker Preston was born on May 13, 1935 in Greensboro, NC. She attended UNC-Greensboro where she received an Associates Degree to teach school.

     She had 3 children and worked for Blue Cross in Asheville, NC as an Office Manager for several years.  In addition to her full-time position at Blue Cross, she served as a church organist, taught piano lessons and sang in the Choir.  While working for Blue Cross she met the love of her life, Herman Preston, They married and relocated to Chapel Hill in May 1974. In 1975 she joined Human Resource Consultants as their first Business manager where she quickly mastered the company’s finances, hired, trained and managed office staff while instilling her values of professionalism and integrity.  Many at HRC viewed her as the embodiment of integrity which created an atmosphere of trust as it grew. She retired after 40 years with the company. 

     Betsy was an avid Carolina fan, traveling to games all over the country.  She loved gardening, cross-stitch, photography and her Bible study groups. Betsy was a charter member of the Church of the Good Shepherd where she frequently served as the church pianist.  She dearly loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

     She was proceeded in death by her mother, Pauline Neal Walker; father Hubert Long Walker; husband Herman F Preston, Jr. and Stepmother Helen Walker. She is survived by her sister Ann (Rick) Joslin, brother Andy Walker; her 3 children; David Sartin (Kelly) of Floyds Knobs, IN; Kathy Poe of Chapel Hill, NC and Eddie Sartin of Los Angeles, CA. Grandchildren, Kaitlyn Wolf (Patrick), Matthew Sartin (Amy), Melanie Ann Jones (Jordan) and Hannah Lowe (Brandon); Great Grandchildren; Evan, Luke and Harper Grace Wolf, Jackson Sartin, Paityn Lowe and the impending arrival of Rhett Jones.

     A memorial service honoring Betsy was held on Thursday Jan 3, 2019 at 11:00 am at Church of the Good Shepherd, Durham, NC. Internment followed at  Forsyth Memorial Park Cemetery, Winston-Salem, NC. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, Chapel Hill, NC

     The Preston family is under the care of Walker's Funeral Home of Chapel Hill.
