Dr. Headen was a favorite professor during my time as an undergraduate in the business school at UNC in the 1970s. I have always remembered a project we did for the Intimate Bookshop to analyze the efficiency of their television advertising under his guidance. Along with CL Kendall, Dr. Headen sparked my interest in marketing and a career that started in that functional area. The impact of great teachers like Dr. Headen extends beyond what even they can see. Thanks, Dr. Headen. Stephen P. Lucia, Barb and I are saddened at Bob’s passing. I remember his love for teaching and Kenan-Flagler and his kind encouragement for me to get MBA as retirement approached. So very sorry for your loss. I have very fond memories of talking with Dr. Headon, Be it in Chapel Hill, in Arlington or at the beach. I found him engaging, inquisitive, and very interesting. Robert Headen was one of the finest men I’ve ever had the good fortune to have in my life. For 43 years he was not only the father of my closest friend, he treated me like a 3rd daughter. My heart aches for the Headen/Sondheim family. He will be sorely missed by them, and the many friends who have loved and admired him.

I am blessed to have had Bob as a father, not just a father in-law, figure in my life for twice as long as my own father. My whole family will miss him dearly but his legacy continues on through my wonderful wife Julie and our three kids, as well as through Ashley and her two girls.
