Robert “Bob” Johnson, Sr, 65, of Clemmons, North Carolina, passed away Tuesday, August 7th surrounded by close family.
A celebration of life service was held at 2:00pm, Thursday, August 9th, at First Christian Church, 2320 Country Club Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
Bob was born May 6th, 1953 in Winston-Salem to Ralph and Lillian (Currin) Johnson. As an Order of the Arrow Eagle Scout, he was readily accepted into North Carolina State University and graduated with honors with a double major in mathematics and computer science, later achieving a Master of Business Administration from Wake Forest University. After graduating from NCSU, he married his lifelong partner Debra (Otto) Johnson on July 26th, 1975 and together had two children. Bob had many successful professional roles during the dawn of information technology with Cooper Research in Dallas, Sara Lee in Winston-Salem as well as several entrepreneurial ventures in consulting and ownership of a custom glass business. Bob was always hungry for learning new things and sharing what he learned with friends and family. He was the rare type of individual who was a jack-of-all trades but truly a master-of-all as well. A beloved ‘Poppy’ to his granddaughters, Bob will be remembered for his sharp wit, charity and selflessness towards others.
Bob is survived by his wife Debra (Otto) Johnson of Clemmons, NC; son Robert “Brooks” Johnson, Jr., his wife Christy and their two daughters Graylyn and Lillian, all of Colleyville, TX; son Ryan Edward Johnson and his wife Whitney of Raleigh, NC; and brother Steve Johnson and his wife Karen of Addison, TX.
