Please share a memory of Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edward Lee Davidson of Hillsborough, North Carolina passed away peacefully and surrounded by love on May 5th 2018 at the Veterans Administration Hospice Facility in Durham, North Carolina. “Eddie D” was born December 16th 1932 in Bethel, North Carolina. He served his country in the US Army for 23 years, serving 2 tours of duty in Vietnam and one tour in Korea and retiring in 1972. During his time with the military, he was honored with numerous medals of honor including the Silver Star for valor in combat, the Bronze Star and Air Medal for heroic and meritorious achievement of service, and the Purple Heart medal, being awarded for his injuries sustained during the Vietnam War. Following his retirement from the military, he joined the US Postal Service where he worked for 23 years until his retirement in 1995. During his golden years of retirement, he enjoyed reclining in his lazy-boy recliner in his man cave, playing his electronic Yahtzee game, doing word search puzzles, gallivanting around town with his wife and sister in law, Peggy (a.k.a. ‘the chauffeur and partner in crime’), and living life to its fullest with his family and friends.
Edward was an amazing, loving and supportive husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and brother. Edward’s great sense of humor attracted people where ever he went. Edward was always available to share a laugh or provide a shoulder to cry on. He was fiercely loved and supported by his large loving family, having set this as an example for his family to follow. Edward and his family made sure he lived a meaningful and full life. He participated in living life as much as possible despite his health limitation.
Edward, our solider, has been asked by God to perform his final duty in heaven and he has honored this call, as always. Edward loved god, his country and his family.
Edward will lovingly be remembered by his loving wife of 64 years, Shirley Dodson Davidson; his children: Sylvia Stracke (Warren Parsons), Kenneth ‘Kenny’ Davidson (Suzy), Robin Davidson and Susan Tilley (Dwight); his grand-children: Mary Harris (Mike), Michelle Parsons, Jessica Parsons, Duncan ‘DJ’ Sanders and Haley Davidson; his great-grandchild: Ashley Harris; his sisters: Stella Giesau and Ruby Mason (Carlton Mason); his sister-in-laws: Amelia Davidson and Peggy Ritch; and many nieces, nephews and other ‘adopted’ family. Edward is preceded in death by his mother and father: Cassie and Harvey Davidson; his brothers: William, Thelbert and Lonnie; his granddaughter Samantha Tilley and great-granddaughter: Katherine Harris.
A celebration of Edward’s life was held on Tuesday, May 8th 2018 at Cane Creek Baptist Church at 3pm in Hillsborough, North Carolina. Burial with military honors followed at the church cemetery.
