When I think of my father-in-law, three passions come to mind: adventure, learning and golf. Thanks to Ed, I was able to visit incredible places like Costa Rica and Turks and Caicos. I was able to play golf with him on many great courses in the US and overseas. Some adventures were less exotic but equally memorable, like packing up his belongings in a U-Haul truck and driving across half the country when he retired to Chapel Hill. I always admired his love of learning as a retiree - very few people sign up for classes when they are 80 years old. I also admired the way Ed cared for his father by moving him to Chapel Hill and visiting him almost every day until he passed on. Ed Harland was all of those things - and I will miss him very much.
