Obituary of Dana Bateman Kelly

Dana Kelly (Bateman), 73, of Hillsborough, died unexpectedly from injuries sustained in a car accident on July 31, 2017.

 

Mrs. Kelly was born in Artesia, CA, to the late Daniel and Gale Reynolds Bateman. She graduated from California State University, Long Beach with a Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing. She continued her education by obtaining her Masters in Public Health/Nursing Management, from the University of Alaska, Anchorage. She was employed for many years in Long Beach, CA, Anchorage, AK, and Memphis, TN, as a Nurse and Diabetic Educator.  While in Alaska, she also worked with the State of Alaska office of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).  She served on the Board of the Alaska division of the America Heart Association.  She and her husband eventually moved to Hillsborough. Mrs. Kelly enjoyed Equestrian riding in the form of English Dressage. In her spare time, she knitted sweaters for her family.

 

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Michael Thomas Kelly, of Hillsborough; sons, Bryan Scott Kelly and Erik Sean Kelly, both of Exeter, RI; sisters, Dr. Charlene Dean, and her husband, Dr. Ralph, of Corona, CA; and Margaret Brake, and her husband David, of Conroe, TX; and sister-in-law, Pam Bateman, of Columbia, Indiana.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Paul and Gregory Bateman.

 

There will be a Celebration of Life, Open House, honoring Dana on 3 February 2018, between 3pm and 5pm, at the Cedar Grove United Methodist Church, 5218 Efland-Cedar Grove Road, Cedar Grove, NC 27231.
