Obituary of Robin Lear Peacock

Raleigh Robin Lear Peacock died December 11, 2013 at home in Raleigh, NC. Born August 1, 1927, she was a native of Chapel Hill, NC, the daughter of the late Joseph Merritt and Rachel Robinson Lear. She has resided in Raleigh since 1972. She was a graduate of UNC, receiving a bachelor's degree in zoology in 1947 and a master's degree in social work in 1972. In addition to her involvement in many volunteer activities throughout her adult life, she was employed for 28 years as a social worker, first with the Wayne County (NC) Department of Social Services and, later, with the North Carolina Division of Social Services, where she was supervisor of adoptions until her retirement in 1992. Survivors include her five children: Anna Christy Peacock, Lawrenceville, NJ; sons Robert Howell Peacock IV, New York City, NY; John Merritt Lear Peacock and Ellen Shipman, Goldsboro, NC; William Ellery Peacock and wife Gregory Tyler, Raleigh, NC; and Sarah Stansbury Peacock and husband Thomas Clay, Cohasset, MA; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. Interment will be at the Old Chapel Hill Cemetery, Lear Plot, Section IV-R19 at 10:00 am, Monday, December 16, 2013. A memorial celebration will be held at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 1520 Canterbury Road, Raleigh, at 2:00 December 16, 2013. Following the service, the family will greet friends at St. Michael's Parish Hall.
