Obituary of Ann Douglas Compton
Please share a memory of Ann to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ann Douglas Compton, age 77, was born to Frank and Lois Douglas on May 26, 1936 in Hillsborough, NC.
She accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior of her life years ago. Ann loved the Lord and served Him faithfully. She went to join him in Heaven on February 8th, 2014. At the time of her peaceful, victorious departure, Ann was at home with her daughter, Kelly and son-in-law Will, whom she fondly referred to as her "son" and "The Caretaker." Her inspiration for knowing Jesus Christ originated from her mother, Lois Douglas. Ann loved everyone and shared the Good News of Jesus with everyone she could. Her passionate prayer was that all know Jesus and get saved. She was devoted to her family, was a wonderful, loving mother to Kelly, a leader, organizer, and manager, who exuded much wisdom. She knew from God's word that life on this earth is like a vapor, here today and gone tomorrow, but life in Heaven is forever. Ann was a prayer warrior, of whom God healed physically many times. Now her body has received the greatest healing from all suffering and pain. Ann loved sending cards and calling people letting them know they were special. She was a long-time member of Faith Christian Fellowship Church of God of Prophecy in Hillsborough, NC. Ann loved her pastor Ronnie Bradford and wife, Peggy. She was devoted to her church and church family.
Ann enjoyed being with family and friends, receiving cards, phone calls, and visits. She found pleasure making flower arrangements for her church and for family gravesites. Knitting was also something she enjoyed. She was known for her knitted dish cloths and afghans, and recently had made some beautiful scarves and hats. Ann didn't let multiple health issues get her down. She was a courageous, motivated and hardworking individual, a doer not a sitter. Her philosophy was, "If you're going to do something, do it right or not at all." She enjoyed eating at her two favorite restaurants, Mayflower and C&H Cafeteria, both in Durham.
Ann graduated from Hillsboro High School and Mercy School of Nursing in Charlotte, NC. During her extensive nursing career, she worked at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, the VA Medical Center - Hemo-dialysis unit in Durham, was Director of Nursing at Hillhaven Rose Manor in Durham, Director of Nursing at Lakeview Manor in Chapel Hill, was an Occupational Health RN at Glaxo-Wellcome in RTP, and retired from Liggett and Myers as an Occupational Health Nurse.
