Obituary of Sandra Inman

Please share a memory of Sandra to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sandra Inman lived each day with a steady, selfless and optimistic determination right to her last, August 17, 2015. Born June 11, 1936, she was raised in a modest, loving home by her parents, Myrtle and Wyma Henley, in Kannapolis, NC. She grew up at the dawn of rock and roll, inspiring her to see all the greats--Elvis, Buddy Holly, and many more. Her love of music remained ever-evolving, a gift she gave freely to her children. In 1958, she was smitten by an ambitious young man, Bill Inman, who had just become the first member of his family to achieve a college degree following an Air Force stint. Once married, they moved to Charlotte to start a family and career. About the time of The Beatles first hit, they moved to Chapel Hill for Bill's new job with UNC, where she happily remained for over 50 years. Sandra devoted herself to creating a home that fostered creativity while providing every need for her family. She loved to cook, transcribing recipes in a beautiful hand writing style, and the fridge was always stocked. Holidays and birthdays were a big deal, worthy of proper celebration. Education was key, as she inspired all 3 children to achieve college degrees. She also loved to sew and quilt, great movies of all kinds but most especially in the theater, and there simply weren't enough books to read. Other than home, no place was better than the beach for Sandra! For most of her adult life, she was a homemaker, supporting her family members in their various sports, music, professional, academic and creative endeavors. She also worked at a fabric store and popularly hosted at the Farm House Restaurant. She was a member of University United Methodist Church. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 57 years, William (Bill); son Kyle and his wife Debbie and grandson Cole; son Keith; daughter Lisa Inman and husband Roman Rebilas, and grandsons Sam and Joe Rebilas, and granddaughter Robin Rebilas. A celebration of her life will be he held in the Chapel at University United Methodist Church on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill on Thursday, August 20, 11am. The family invites you to consider a gift to the Multiple System Atrophy Coalition. Walker's Funeral Home is honored to serve the Inman family.
