Elizabeth Waynick Cannon, 101, passed quietly away this morning at 6:35 AM after a brief illness. She is survived by her Daughter, Patricia Anne Simmons and Patricia's husband, Carlyle. She is also survived by her two Grandsons, Richard and Matthew, their wives, Hee Cheong and Britt and her Great Grandchildren, Alex 22, Onnew 20, Gage 19, Willow 15 and Meadow 8. Her Husband, William passed away 17 years ago. Her two brothers, Walt and Dan as well as her beloved sister, Minerva all predeceased her
Elizabeth enjoyed a life filled with sports. She was a swimmer and loved her favorite sport, Golf. In her later years, she won the Senior's championship for the state of Delaware. Her husband, Bill, was her coach and most ardent supporter.
She was born on a farm in Caswell County, NC in 1914. Her family moved to Greensboro, NC when she was 8 to gain access to better schools. She stayed in Greensboro, attending Greensboro WC for an Associate's degree. Elizabeth moved to Chicago with her girlfriend in the late 1930s and returned home to Greensboro at the outbreak of World War II. It was there that she met her husband, Bill. After the war, her Daughter, Patricia was born and the family moved to Wilmington, DE. After the death of her husband, she joined her daughter's family in Chapel Hill, NC, where she lived the remainder of her life.
