Georgie,Billy Sykes, and I boarded a bus in Nov. 1966 headed to Fort Bragg for basic training. We were all first cousins which made having to be there a little better.
Georgie was always being funny is what I remember about him the most when I was around him.
On Sundays we could have visitors and Georgies brother Jimmy Red and his wife would come down and visit him and that allowed me to be able to leave the barracks and be with them which was awful nice to see family as we could not leave the base.
I treasured every moment with Georgie and his family when they came down.
At the end of our training there we all 3 went separate ways and were blessed to make it through our time in the Army and come back home.
I rarely ever saw Georgie after we returned except a couple of times at UNC basketball games in the Dean Smith Center where I worked. We would talk briefly when we saw one another there. He was a good man and I know he will be missed.
