Obituary of Jane Garris Watts

Jane Garriss Watts, native of Clinton and long-time resident of Carrboro, passed away peacefully on November 4 at Beacon Place in Greensboro. She was born in Pender County, NC to the late Shirley Hewett Garriss and L. W. Garriss on November 21, 1936. She is survived by her daughter Dena Watts of Hillsborough, daughter Melinda Watts Billings, son-in-law Steve Billings, granddaughters Sarah and Maddie Billings of Greensboro; brother John Garriss of Franklin, TN, sister Beth Garriss Hardy and brother-in-law Jim Hardy of Summerfield; sister-in-law Margaret Watts of Carrboro; nieces, nephews, and many other loving relatives and supportive friends. She will be long remembered for her sense of humor, her quiet dignity, her care and concern for others, and her gentle and loving presence in the lives of many. Her positive attitude and steadfast faith will continue to be an inspiration to those who knew her. In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Watts, son Kevin Watts, sister Phyllis Garriss Kennedy, and brother Kenneth Garriss. The Watts family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Beacon Place of Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro for their wonderful support for Jane and her family. A celebration of the loving and gentle life of Jane Watts will be held on Monday, November 9, at 11:00 a.m. at Carrboro United Methodist Church, 200 Hillsborough Road, Carrboro NC. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday November 8 at Walker Funeral Home, 120 W. Franklin Street, Chapel Hill.
