Virginia Thompson

Chapel Hill - Mrs. Virginia Lyon McCraw Thompson passed away at her home after extensive complications with the flu and pneumonia on October 28, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Ginny was born in Durham, NC to the late Burley and Berkeley McCraw in 1957. She obtained her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Psychology from Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College). She then received her Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1981. Ginny practiced as an SLP for over 30 years in Guilford, Rockingham, and Chatham County schools, with her last position at Willow Oak Montessori School in Chapel Hill. Ginny had a deep, devoted relationship with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, living each day for Him, according to His word. Ginny spent her life spreading kindness and acceptance working tirelessly to serve the families and children in her community. Each and every one of them touched her life and her heart. We ask that all who loved her, knew her, or whose life was influenced by her continue this legacy. Ginny is survived by her husband of 28 years, Richard A. Thompson, Jr. (Rick); son, Matthew Porter Thompson; daughter, Sarah Houston Thompson; brother, Burley H. McCraw "Butch", and his wife, Barbara; niece and nephew, Jennifer N. McCraw and Michael J. McCraw, and their children; also survived by her brother and sister in law, Laura T. Mullinax, Joseph F. Mullinax, III, and nephews Joseph Travis Mullinax and Richard Blake Mullinax. In addition to her parents, Ginny was preceded in death by her sister, Beverly Louise McCraw. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Walker's Funeral Home, 120 W. Franklin Street, Chapel Hill. Officiating will be Rev. Robert Voorhees. The family will receive visitors in the funeral home immediately following the service.
