Virginia Jordan Sellew, the wife of the late John E. Sellew, Sr., went home to be with her Heavenly Father and her wonderful Savior on Easter Sunday, April 20. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her father, Newbie N. Jordan, her mother, Aurora B. Jordan, one grandchild and two great grandchildren. Surviving are her brother, James W. Jordan (Dot), and her children John E. “Chip” Sellew, Jr., (Sarah), Marla S. Ludlam (Doug), William J. Sellew (Debbie), David N. Sellew (Marie), Thomas H. “Tom” Sellew (Annette), and Wesley W. “Walt” Sellew (Diane). Virginia is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
Virginia would testify that her greatest accomplishments in this life were associated with her husband and the family that they shared and loved. She was saved at a young age and rededicated her life to the Lord when several of her children accepted Christ as their Savior. She was faithful in her attendance to church, becoming active in the church, singing in the choir, and helping with church functions. She served in several ministries through the years and always possessed the mindset of helping others. Even when her physical strength was waning, she was asking about the welfare of others and what she might do to help them. She delighted in her family and enjoyed being with them. She chose as her life verse Romans 8:28; the verse that she shared with her husband, who also claimed it as his life verse. She was a member at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Mebane, North Carolina for almost 20 years.
Virginia graduated from Peace College and had several jobs during her working career. This ranged from working in sales to being a seamstress, though she would probably pick her job at Western Electric as her favorite, for there she met John, her husband.
In the last few years of her life, she was known for saying, “I love you to the moon and back several times.” These were her last words before going to her heavenly home, as well. The Lord allowed her to remain behind after her husband had gone to be with Jesus for the benefit of the family. And, she was that balm for her family, extending beyond her physical family to include brothers and sisters in Christ that she dearly loved. We will miss her laughter with her hugs and kisses, but, one day, maybe soon, those who know the Lord as their Savior will see Virginia again, young and strong, smiling, and maybe calling in a clear, youthful voice, “I love you to the moon and back several times!”
Visitation for the family will be at Tabernacle Baptist Church from 12:00 to 2:00, with the service beginning at 2:00. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church, 523 North Charles Street, Mebane, North Carolina 27302.
