Virginia Maynard

Virginia Maynard of Chapel Hill died from medical complications on March 20, 2023. She was 88. She had been dealing with dementia for several years. She was born in Marion, Indiana on April 14, 1934 to Ella Mae and Carl Kennedy. Her family moved to Asheville when she was a child. She attended Women’s College (now UNCG) where she earned her BA (botany). She came to Chapel Hill in 1954 where she married James Maynard of Chapel Hill (deceased). They resided in a home on McCauley St. that his father had built in 1937. There she raised their 4 children- Katherine (deceased), Linda, Janet (deceased) and John Maynard. After moving out of the city limits she went to work at Wee Care retiring after 12 years. She loved being creative and caring to the babies and toddlers. She loved gardening, being outdoors, just being with nature. Genealogy research was also her passion. Her smile and infectious joy of nature will immensely be missed. A graveside service will be held at the Old Chapel Hill cemetery on March 30 at 2:00pm. Walker’s funeral home is assisting the family.
