Sandra Williams Jefferson

Sandra Elaine Williams Jefferson, 76, died unexpectedly on Thursday, June 8, 2017. Sandy was born on September 16, 1940 in Carrboro, NC to the late Marmaduke (Duke) Williams and Elizabeth (Agnes) Thomas. She graduated from Chapel Hill High School and spent the majority of her life in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area. Sandy enjoyed spending time with her family, her life-long friends and helping those in need. To family, she will forever be "Granny." She delighted in taking her grandchildren on thrift store deal hunts, playing games (like hide and seek over the phone), and watching her grandkids' sporting events. Her friends will remember how she played a mean Rummikub and enjoyed going to Broadway shows at the Durham Theater. Sandy was a very active member of Antioch Baptist Church. Through the church, Sandy was constantly busy with numerous charitable efforts, such as Samaritan's Purse. Weekly, she would cook for families at the Ronald McDonald House and was always searching for and donating caps for newborn infants. She even hand sewed gowns for infants who were laid to rest. She enjoyed gardening and she happily spent her last day planting flowers in her yard. In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her brother Steve Williams. She is survived by children, Elizabeth Jefferson Chiastra of Lakewood, CO and William Jefferson of Charlotte, NC, as well as by grandchildren Jacqueline, Alessandro, Dorian and Andrew. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, June 13 at Antioch Baptist Church, 1707 White Cross Road, Chapel Hill.
