Robert Smith, Sr.

Robert Young Smith, Sr., 87, passed away peacefully on March 25th, 2019. Robert was born on February 4th, 1932 to the late Wiley Hubert and Elizabeth Coleman Smith in Orange County and lived there most of his life. He proudly served his country with the Army in the Korean War. He worked for many years with Nello Teer and later owned and operated Smith Heavy Equipment Repair Shop. He is survived by his loving wife Jill C. Smith, children, Robert Young Smith Jr., Amanda Smith Berry (William), Kristen McGuire (Trent), Kourie Underwood (Darryl), and Daniel Axsom; grandchildren, Rob Smith, Elizabeth Underwood, Gracie McGuire, Aiden Underwood, Caroline McGuire, and Kimber Efland; sister, Polly Matthews, and multiple nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Erna Swain, and his brother Hubert Ellis Smith. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 30th, 2019 at 2:30 pm in the Chapel of Walker’s Funeral Home, 204 N. Churton Street, Hillsborough, NC. Burial will follow at the Coleman family cemetery in the Schley community at 2500 Woods Loop, Hurdle Mills, NC 27541. The family will receive visitors prior to the service at the funeral home, beginning at 12:30pm. The Smith family is under the care of Walker’s Funeral Home of Hillsborough.
