Robert Nutter

Robert Percival Nutter passed away peacefully at Maple View Farm on March 8, 2019 surrounded by his family. Farmer Bob, as he was lovingly called by his children and countless friends, was born to Ruth Jones Nutter and Fred Jewett Nutter on September 20, 1928, in Corinna, Maine. The family moved to Hillsborough, NC in 1963, and moved Maple View Farm from Maine to North Carolina. Farmer Bob was active in the National Holstein Association all his life. Bob married Aubrey Christie Waddell Nov. 30, 1975. A member of New Hope Presbyterian Church, Bob was instrumental in revitalizing and upgrading Camp New Hope. In order to educate area youth about where their food originates, he built the Maple View Agricultural and Educational Center. Through Triangle Community Foundation, he created a fund which provides money to promote literacy by purchasing books for schools in Orange County. The Department of Animal Science at NC State University named him Distinguished Dairy Farmer for 1999. The Orange County Recreation and Parks Department Advisory Council gave Bob and Chris Nutter the Volunteer Service Award in 2001. Bob was a life-long member of Grange. In 2011, Maple View was named Farm of the Year by the NC State Grange and commended for outstanding dedication and service in the community. In 2015, the Chapel Hill Chamber of Commerce inducted Bob into the Business Hall of Fame for his lifelong dedication not only to farming, but also to Orange County. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at New Hope Presbyterian Church, Chapel Hill. The family will greet friends at 1:30 and the celebration will be held at 3:00. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either Hospice, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215, or the Triangle Community Foundation, PO Box 12729, Durham, NC 27709, www.trianglecf.org. Walker's Funeral Home of Chapel Hill has been entrusted to care for Farmer Bob and his family.
