Robert Manly Harris

Robert Manly Harris, aka R. Buckle, 57, passed away peacefully in his home on June 4, 2022, surrounded by his family who adored him.

Robert was born on October 19, 1964 in Durham, NC to the late Benjamin, “Benny”, and Anne Harris. He graduated from Chapel Hill High School in 1983 and went on to run a successful landscaping and handyman business. He devoted his life and love to his wife and his kids, and was a wonderful husband and father. His family was the light of his life.

R. Buckle had a heartfelt love for his dogs, Benji Lou, Middie, and his grand dog Polly, spending many hours hanging out and playing with them. He also had great enthusiasm for stock car racing, gardening, and the UNC Tarheels, from which many life long friendships evolved. However, where his true passion soared was in sharing his love and spreading happiness to his friends, his family, and everyone he met. R. Buckle created beauty in everything he touched, and inspired positivity and laughter in the hearts of all who knew him. He never met a stranger.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie and Anne. He is survived by his wife, Alice Mott Kessing; his children, Suzanna Vice (Samuel, husband) and Thomas Harris (Davian, fiancé).

The family will be accepting visitors at Walker’s Funeral Home in Chapel Hill on June 17, 2022 from 6:00p to 8:00p. A private graveside service will be held on June 18, 2022 at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery. If preferred, donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital may be made in lieu of flowers. Walker's Funeral Home of Chapel Hill is assisting the Harris family.
