Ralph Medcalf

Ralph Medcalf, age 77, died on May 23, 2017 at UNC Hospital after a brief illness. Mr. Medcalf was born on August 24, 1939 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Ralph and Helen Medcalf. Ralph went to Greenhills High School where he excelled in sports. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in chemical engineering from Northwestern University. He lettered there in track and field. Mr Medcalf worked for many years as a chemical engineer for Procter and Gamble. After managing various projects while working for P&G in Cincinnati he was offered a position in Hong Kong where he worked for 8 years developing products for the Asian market. After his retirement Ralph moved to Chapel Hill, NC Where he enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Chapel Hill Country Club for several years. He also enjoyed both domestic and international travel. Survivors include his wife Diane; his sons Thomas (Leora) of Edmond Oklahoma, Geoffrey of Chapel Hill, NC, and Michael (A Qin) of Kunming, China; his sisters Wanda (Doc) Burke of Albany, Ohio and Maureen (Bob) Brabbs of Fairfield, Ohio. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren; Kyle, Megan and Ray. Donations can be made to the Durham Rescue Mission, PORCH or the charity of your choice.
