Rachel Swaim Mcfarling

Mrs. Rachel Shaw Swaim McFarling, 88, of Chapel Hill, died Sunday, January 10, 2016 in her home. Mrs. McFarling was born in Guilford County, NC on September 18, 1927, the daughter of David and Nell Haithcock Swaim. She was a graduate of the now UNC Greensboro, where she received her masters degree in elementary education. She retired as the kindergarten director from Church of the Holy Family. Mrs. McFarling is survived by her husband, Hugh B. McFarling; son, David McFarling of Oxford; daughter, Lisa M. House of Chapel Hill; brothers, Mike, Mitchell and Bill Swaim; sisters, Judy Steen and Patricia Levens; and two grandchildren, Michael House and Jennifer House. The funeral service for Mrs. McFarling will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, January 14, 2016 in the chapel of Walker's Funeral Service and Cremation in Chapel Hill. Pastor Gail Smith, UNC Hospice Chaplain, will preside. Interment will follow at Markham Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Wednesday evening at Walker's Funeral Service and Cremation, 120 W. Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, NC.
